If you have read my post on free alternatives to paid antivirus/antimalware, you should by now realise that preventing and cleaning infections is totally different module. Even there are quite many reliable cleaning solutions, only a few like Emsisoft Emergency Kit that is packed in portable to bring in pocket.
Finally, we're in luck that the prestigious Norman ASA has also released a cleaning utility, the Norman Malware Cleaner. Distributed in only one executable file, it is a fully portable tool that doesn't require any installation.
The interface Norman Malware Cleaner offers is simple and clean, with multiple scanning modes and more options to be configured such as sandboxing capability, rootkit cleaning as well as the use of multitheading.
On capability to detect virus or malware, it actually scored higher than average compared to other tests I've done so far. On the other hand, it is quite uncommon that one obvious feature missing from this tool is the signature updater, whereby user must download the latest daily updated copy over again from Norman website. Despite the downside, this portable tool is definitely worthwhile to be added into my list of free alternatives!
