How To Fix Windows Aero Transparency In VirtualBox!

"VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Not only is VirtualBox an extremely feature rich, high performance product for enterprise customers, it is also the only professional solution that is freely available as Open Source Software under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2."

To test anything new or unknown(that could cause damage to the real system), VirtualBox is perhaps the best virtualization software to run a guest operating system inside another host. However, the default installation of VirtualBox does not support Windows Aero Transparency, which is an important feature in Windows. Thus to enable this feature, one has to firstly install an additional plugin, the Guest Additions as shown in guide below.

On VirtualBox toolbar, select "Devices" and "Install Guest Additions...". Once clicked, an autorun installer should pops up on the guest operating system.

In the setup, make sure that Direct 3D support is checked for Windows Aero feature to get working.

Once installation is done, shutdown guest operating system and navigate to its display settings. Check "Enable 3D Acceleration" and assign at least 128MB of video memory.

Finally, save and start your guest operating system, where Windows Aero should now present without any hitch. If Aero is not working smoothly, assign more video memory in the setting above.
