TeraCopy: Copy Files Faster!

Most people including myself have been using the default Windows file copier, and had not thought of any alternatives. If you have a large amount of files to be copied or moved, the default copier might not be be your best solution for speedier copying. Today, I finally made up my mind to test on a well-known free version of TeraCopy.

This free version comes along with useful features including the capability to pause and resume, error recovery, Windows shell integration, secure delete and of course claimed ability to copy faster.

Another interesting feature in TeraCopy installer is the portable installation.

TeraCopy works by simply dragging and dropping a file, then browse to copying destination.

In my test with a 772MB file, Windows 7 Copier achieved an average speed of 3.5MBps, while TeraCopy scored better with average 4.2MBps. How much time can I save? Winning speed by 0.7 MBps is not very obvious for a small file, but you judge when dealing with a 100GB file.
