"Why Windows Media Player can't play this file?" This question is no bizzare to many when a person wishes to play .avi .mov or .flv videos using the default Windows Media Player. The answer to this popular question is due to the missing audio and video codec. Of course, some would recommend an alternative players like VLC Player or UMPlayer which has included extra codecs in the program itself. Howbeit, I am still sticking to WMP 12 that suits my taste best.
In order for WMP to play extra file extensions, K-Lite Codec Pack is arguably the best codec pack available. Ranging from basic, standard, full to mega pack, you can get more video tools and filters. Anyhow, the Basic pack is more than sufficient to play 99.99% of all video formats for most people.
Once installation is successful, you will go through a set of options to associate files extension with codec and media player. If these options doesn't work on you(like me), simply right-click on a video and open with Windows Media Player as default, and you're done.
