Immunet 3.0: Good, But Not Flawless!

Other than Panda Cloud Antivirus that I have previously written, Immunet is another security vendor that utilise cloud-based technology to deliver its product and updates. Also provided a free solution, Immunet Free Antivirus claims to be compatible with existing antivirus installed, has small footprint and fast in detection thanks to its Collective Immunity technology.

What makes this antivirus interesting is the implementation of multiple detection engines which includes ETHOS, SPERO as well as ClamAV for complete offline protection. Another TETRA engine is only available in the Plus version.

True enough, Immunet is able to detect my existing avast! which is shown on its left panel. For this antivirus with multiple engines, 127 malware samples are tested. Without any hassle Immunet easily scored 90/127 in automatic detection, while 91/127 in manual scan. This is by far one of the best score among my tests!

However, I still would like to test its effectiveness during system offline. Disconnected from internet, Immunet scored a tiny 6/127 malwares. This has proved that Immunet is better to be just a companion, but not a standalone antivirus for a not-always-online system.
